Under the auspices of Vladimir Spidla, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, the new information tool "Demographic Risk Map" was presented to more than 100 representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, companies, NGOs, national governments and media in Brussels on 8 May 2008. It is the first online tool to present the consequences of an aging and shrinking society for selected location factors in 264 regions of the EU-27 through to 2030. The information tool is available now to all companies worldwide for their human resources policies at www.demographic-risk-map.eu.

Prague, the Capital of the Czech Republic, was at the centre of the debate on demographic change in Europe on 14 February 2008. At the SAP Business CEntre Europe in the heart of Prague, Milos Tichy from the Czech Ministry of Labour, Zuzana di Falco from the Czech Chamber of Commerce, Petr Jonak, responsible for External Affairs, Skoda Auto, Bernhard Ehret, Managing Director EMEA HR Shared Service Centre SAP AG, and Professor Thusnelda Tivig from the Rostock Centre for the Study of Demographic Change debated the significance of demographic change in Europe and its specific impact on the Czech economy.

The European MarketPlace on Corporate Social Responsibility Brüssel, 29. November 2007
A record number of 650 representatives from companies, NGOs, national governments, media and the European Commission attended the European MarketPlace on Corporate Social Responsibility in Brussels, organised for the third time by CSR Europe. At a European level, econsense is the national partner organisation of CSR Europe. Günter Verheugen, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for Enterprise and Industry, and Vladimir Spidla, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, opened the event. Mr Spidla also visited the information stand of the Laboratory Demographic Change.

Around 60 experts from business, trade unions and politics took part in the first dialogue workshop in Berlin to discuss the means of tackling the challenges of demographic change. The importance of a co-ordinated approach agreed by all parties is aired during a podium discussion involving Prof. Thusnelda Tivig (Rostock Center for the Study of Demographic Change), Dr. Günter Krings (MdB, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Sustainable Development), Ralf Becker (Executive Secretary IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie), Dr. Hendrik Garz (Executive Director Extra-Financial Research, WestLB) and Dr. Hartmut Lang (Manager HR Strategy, BASF AG). According to Krings: "It will only be possible to harness the opportunities brought about by future changes in population age structures, if solutions are sought jointly and strategically."
