4th of December 2008, Brussels
"Equipped for CSR - The European Alliance Event 2008"

The 80 member companies and national partners of CSR Europe launched a Toolbox for a Competitive and Responsible Europe at its "Equipped for CSR" event in Brussels. Keynote speeches were held by European Commissioners Günter Verheugen and Vladimir Spidla who stressed that the European Commission sees CSR of crucial importance for a competitive and sustainable Europe. The event linked practical tools for responsible business with these strategic European goals.

CSR Europe's Toolbox contains a set of practical tools for companies to gain competitive advantage through responsible business practices. The tools are the result of a series of business-stakeholder cooperation projects, known as CSR Laboratories, coordinated by CSR Europe and its partner organisations throughout Europe. The Toolbox includes guides, research reports, online resources and collaborative network models on issues such as reducing the environmental impact of industrial products and processes, promoting employee health and wellbeing in the workplace and addressing social and environmental issues across the supply chain. In 2009, CSR Europe and its 25 national partner organisations will test and further develop these tools in cooperation with more companies and stakeholders throughout Europe.

3rd Dialogue Workshop "Jointly Tackling Demographic Change in Europe" in Rome/Italy, 23. September 2008

The new demographic study on Europe titled "Mapping Regional Demographic Change and Regional Demographic Location Risk in Europe" was presented for the first time at the Dialogue Workshop in Rome. The study is the scientific basis of the online tool "Demographic Risk Map". This internet-based instrument was launched in Brussels in May 2008 under the auspices of Vladimir Spidla, the EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. The tool is available at www.demographic-risk-map.eu, and provides concise information free-of-charge on demographic change in all regions in Europe, and its impact up to 2030 on the location factors: workforce potential, availability of qualified staff, job productivity and R&D. The new book now explains how regional demographic change is measured, and which evaluation options are now available using the newly developed indices.
